DEF: Donna Summer “Walk Away”
Boston-born singer Donna Summer dominated Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart in the last year of the 1970s. In November 1978, she scored her first number one hit, as “MacArthur Park” topped the chart for three weeks.  Then, in 1979, she hit the Top 5 five times, with three of those songs rising to number one.
Though her chart success waned a bit in 1980, Summer continued to perform well, with two more Top 5 singles that year. Nestled between those two singles, the song “Walk Away” peaked at number 36 on this date in 1980. “Walk Away” would spend two weeks at number 36 before falling out of the Top 40.
