DEF: Evelyn King “I’m In Love”
In 1978, New York City-born singer Evelyn “Champagne” King reached the Top 10 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, when “Shame” peaked at number 9. King would add one more Top 40 hit before the decade had ended and then reach the Top 40 two more times during the 1980s. On this date in 1981, King’s first Top 40 single of the 1980s — “I’m In Love” — cracked into the Top 40 at number 40, where it would peak for two weeks.
