DEF: Gladys Knight & The Pips “Love Overboard”

Atlanta-born singer Gladys Knight and her band the Pips have scored 25 Top 40 hits on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart during their career. The bulk of these hits occurred in the 1960s and 1970s, including a stretch of reaching the Top 40 with 10 consecutive singles between 1969 and 1973.

In late 1975, the group scored the 24th of those 25 Top 40 hits when “Part Time Love” reached number 22. It would take more than a dozen more years before the 25th hit arrived. That hit came in early 1988, and on this date that year, Gladys Knight and the Pips’ single “Love Overboard” reached a peak position of number 13, where it would spend one week. Today, it’s the Daily Eighties Flashback.
