DEF: Joe Jackson “Memphis”
The 1984 film Mike’s Murder was originally built around music by Joe Jackson. When the film studio, Warner Brothers, decided to have the film reedited, Jackson’s music was largely replaced with a score by John Barry. In 1983, Jackson released a soundtrack album featuring songs he had written for the film, and one of those songs — “Memphis” — reached Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart. On this date in 1983, “Memphis” climbed to a peak position of number 85.
