DEF: Journey “Don’t Stop Believin'”

From the list of songs you may have thought performed better than they actually did comes what may be Journey‘s most iconic hit. From its use in the series finale of The Sopranos to its pivotal place in the first season of Glee and in the Broadway musical and subsequent film Rock of Ages to many other references, Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin'” has been a staple of U.S. popular culture for more than 30 years.

In terms of chart performance, “Don’t Stop Believin'” only reached number 9 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, which certainly makes it a big hit, but perhaps not quite as big as one might expect. On this date in 1981, the song hit its peak position, where it would spend three weeks. Today, “Don’t Stop Believin'” is the Daily Eighties Flashback.
