Between 1975 and 1979, Hialeah, Florida-based group KC and the Sunshine Band hit number one on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart four times. The band’s fifth chart-topping single was also released in 1979, but it didn’t hit number one until 1980. In fact, that single — “Please Don’t Go” — was the very first number one single of the 1980s.
