New Jersey-based group Kool & The Gang hit the Top 40 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart 15 times during the 1980s. This included a streak of four consecutive charting singles to reach the Top 40 from 1980 to 1981 as well as a streak of 11 straight singles to reach the Top 40 between 1982 to 1987. In the first streak, the final of the four Top 40 singles was “Take My Heart (You Can Have It If You Want It),” and on this date in 1981, “Take My Heart” reached its peak position of number 17, where it would spend three weeks.
