DEF: Linda Ronstadt “What’s New”
Tucson, Arizona-born singer Linda Ronstadt’s 1983 album What’s New produced one hit on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart. That one chart appearance came with the album’s title track, a remake of a song that has been recorded over the years by a bevy of artists, including Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, John Coltrane, and Robert Goulet. On this date in 1983, the song “What’s News” climbed to a peak position of number 53. Today, “What’s New” by Linda Ronstadt, backed by the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, is the Daily Eighties Flashback.
