DEF: Los Lobos “La Bamba”
The 1987 film La Bamba told the story of early rock ‘n’ roll star Ritchie Valens, who died in the 1959 plane crash famous for also killing Buddy Holly. East Los Angeles-based band Los Lobos performed songs by Valens for the film, and their cover of the song “La Bamba” became the first of the group’s two Top 40 hits from the soundtrack. Exactly 30 years ago, Los Lobos’ cover of Ritchie Valens’ “La Bamba” rose to number one for a three-week reign atop Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart. To commemorate that anniversary, Los Lobos’ biggest hit is today’s Daily Eighties Flashback.
