DEF: Luther Vandross “Never Too Much”
New York City-born Luther Vandross hit the Top 40 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart 12 times during his illustrious career, with his greatest success coming in the early 1990s, when he scored all four of his Top 10 singles. His very first Top 40 single, though, came in the early 1980s, and it was also his first song to hit the Hot 100. On this date in 1981, that single — “Never Too Much” — hit its peak position of number 33, where it would spend two weeks.
