DEF: Madonna “Material Girl”

Madonna has scored 12 number one hits on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart in what is now more than three decades of appearing there. Interestingly, though, one of her most well-known singles — in fact, a song so well known it has provided her with one of her most prominent nicknames — did not reach number one. Exactly 30 years ago, Madonna’s “Material Girl” climbed into the number 2 slot, where it would peak for two weeks.
