DEF: Neil Diamond “Heartlight”

Over the course of his career, Brooklyn, New York-born musician Neil Diamond has hit the Top 10 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart 13 times. The first came in 1966, when “Cherry, Cherry” peaked at number 6, while the last came in 1982. On this date that year, the song “Heartlight,” which was inspired by the blockbuster film E.T. the Extra Terrestrial, reached its peak position of number 5, where it would spend four weeks.
