In fitting fashion, Prince was in the process of scoring the very first Top 40 single of his career as the 1980s began, as “I Wanna Be Your Lover” was rising to a peak position of number 11. Exactly 35 years ago, “I Wanna Be Your Lover” hit that peak position, where it would spend two weeks.
