“Super Freak (Part 1)” was not Buffalo-born singer Rick James‘ biggest hit in terms of chart performance on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart. That honor goes to his first charting single, “You and I,” which reached number 13 in 1978. Still, “Super Freak (Part 1)” is James’ most well known hit, and exactly 35 years ago, it climbed to a peak position of number 16.
