DEF: Sheriff “When I’m With You”
In 1983, Toronto-based band Sheriff reached number 61 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart with the ballad “When I’m With You.” That would have seemed to have been the end of the pop chart line for the band, as they broke up soon thereafter without reaching the Hot 100 again. Until 1988, that is. In late 1988, some U.S. disc jockeys started playing the song again, prompting Capitol Records to re-release the song as a single. This time, it fared much better, and exactly 30 years ago today, it climbed to number one for a one-week reign. To commemorate that anniversary, “When I’m With You” by Sheriff is today’s Daily Eighties Flashback.
