DEF: Sister Sledge “When the Boys Meet the Girls”

Joni Sledge, one of the four sisters who made up Philadelphia-based vocal group Sister Sledge, passed away Saturday at the age of 60. Sister Sledge is most known for their biggest hit, “We Are Family,” which reached number 2 in 1979. “We Are Family” was the second of the group’s two Top 10 hits, both of which came that year.

Though they did not find the same success in the 1980s, Sister Sledge released five studio albums during the decade and made five appearances on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, most successfully with their cover of Mary Wells’ “My Guy,” which hit the Top 40 in 1982. The fifth of the group’s five studio albums from the 1980s was titled When the Boys Meet the Girls, and today, in memory of Joni Sledge, the title track from that album, which did not make an appearance on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, is the Daily Eighties Flashback.
