Fort Wayne, Indiana-born singer Sonny Charles hit number 13 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart in 1969 alongside his band the Checkmates with “Black Pearl.” Charles’ second Top 40 hit came nearly a decade and a half later, when his solo single “Put It In A Magazine” did the trick, though just barely. On this date in 1983, “Put It In A Magazine” reached a peak position of number 40, where it would spend two weeks.
