DEF: The Furious Five Meets The Sugarhill Gang “Showdown”
Henry Jackson, a.k.a. Big Bank Hank, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 57. Hank was one of the three rappers who made up the Sugarhill Gang, who are remembered for their song “Rapper’s Delight,” which became the first rap song to hit the Top 40 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart when it rose to number 36 in 1980.
In memory of Hank, today’s Daily Eighties Flashback is a tune that features the Sugarhill Gang alongside another of rap’s foundational acts, Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five. The two groups came together in 1981 as The Furious Five Meets the Sugarhill Gang to record and release the single “Showdown.”
