DEF: The Oak Ridge Boys “Elvira”

Between 1977 and 1989, Tennessee-based band the Oak Ridge Boys scored 17 number one hits on the country chart.  In the early 1980s, a few of those songs crossed over to Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, where the band’s biggest success came with the song “Elvira.”  On this date in 1981, “Elvira” reached its peak position of number 5, where it would spend four weeks.
