Dirty Laundry
Singing about a theme that seems just as prevalent in television news today as it was then, exactly 30 years ago Don Henley hit a peak position of number three with his song “Dirty Laundry.” The song was the first top 40 hit of Henley’s solo career after the breakup of the Eagles, though that’s not counting his duet “Leather and Lace” with Stevie Nicks, which hit number six a year earlier. If we also rule out another duet — “Sometimes Love Just Ain’t Enough,” which featured Henley and Patty Smyth and spent six weeks at number two in 1992 — “Dirty Laudry” remains the biggest hit of Henley’s solo career, though he would hit the top ten three more times, with “Boys of Summer,” “All She Wants to Do Is Dance,” and “The End of the Innocence.”
