Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car
Trinidad-born singer and songwriter Billy Ocean has hit Billboard’s Hot 100 chart exactly 12 times, and all 12 singles have hit the Top 40. One of them, “Love Really Hurts Without You,” hit number 22 in 1976, and the other 11 all came between 1984 and 1989. Of those 12 songs, seven hit the Top 10, and three hit number one. “Caribbean Queen (No More Love On The Run)” topped the charts for two weeks in 1984; “There’ll Be Sad Songs (To Make You Cry)” topped the chart for one week in 1986; and completing the trio of lengthily titled chart-toppers, exactly 25 years ago, “Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car” rose to number one for the first of two weeks at the top.
Ocean has a list of tour dates lined up in the coming months, and next Monday, his latest album, Here You Are, which features “songs that have inspired Billy’s life and career,” is due to be released. For more on Billy Ocean, check out his official website.
