Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves
In 1965 Sonny & Cher hit number 1 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart with “I Got You Babe,” but it was 40 years today that Cher hit the top for the first time in her solo career, as “Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves” rose to the top for a two-week stay. Cher would hit number 1 three more times as a solo artist, including “Half-Breed” in 1973, “Dark Lady” in 1974, and “Believe” in 1999.
