Heart of Gold
Neil Young has produced a lot of music over the last five decades, including work with Buffalo Springfield; work with Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young; solo work; and side work teaming up with various other artists. In all of that time, his biggest hit is, perhaps unsuprisingly, his solo song “Heart of Gold,” which exactly 40 years ago today rose to the number one spot on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart for a one-week run at the top.
For a stroll down memory lane or for a sense of context, check out the video clip above in which Young sings “Heart of Gold” in a live performance from 1971, where he introduces the song as “another new one.”
