Hello, Dolly!
New Orleans-born singer and trumpeteer Louis Armstrong is one of the most well-known jazz artists of all time. Exactly 50 years ago, Armstrong hit number 1 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart for the first and only time in his career. “Hello, Dolly!” did the trick, spending one week at number 1. Perhaps it’s fitting that it took one of the most famous musicians ever to knock the Beatles out of their record run of holding the top spot on the Hot 100 with three consecutive singles over the course of 14 weeks.
