I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)

Coming off the huge success that followed the 1985 release of her self-titled debut album, in the summer of 1987 Whitney Houston released her second studio album, titled just Whitney.  The first single from that album would become one of the biggest hits of the year, as “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)” rose to number one on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart exactly 25 years ago today and remained at the top for two weeks.

As part of continuing Houston’s success from her initial album, “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” followed in the tracks of the last three singles from that album by hitting number one.  By the following spring, when the next three singles from Whitney also hit number one, Houston had set a record with seven consecutive number one singles.
