It Happened 50 Years Ago: Archie Bell & the Drells “Tighten Up”
Texas-based group Archie Bell & the Drells made ten appearances on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, with three of those songs reaching the Top 40 and two hitting the Top 10. Their biggest hit came with their first chart appearance, “Tighten Up,” which exactly 50 years ago climbed to number one for a two-week run at the top of the chart.
