It Happened 50 Years Ago: Bob Dylan “Like A Rolling Stone”
As I wrote about a few years ago, Bob Dylan is among the list of artists whose pop music success has never turned into a number one hit (not counting, for these purposes, his participation in USA For Africa’s “We Are The World”). Dylan’s highest-charting singles both just missed the top spot. In May of 1966, Dylan spent one week at number 2 with “Rainy Day Women #12 & 35.” Eight months earlier, in September 1965, Dylan spent two weeks at number 2 with “Like A Rolling Stone,” making the song Bob Dylan’s most successful hit single. Exactly 50 years ago, “Like A Rolling Stone” rose to its peak position on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart.
