Creedence Clearwater Revival hit the Top 10 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart nine times, and though they never hit number one, five of those Top 10 hits reached a peak position of number 2, including their first three Top 10 songs. Exactly 50 years ago, CCR’s first Top 10 hit, “Proud Mary,” climbed to number 2 to begin a three-week stay at the penultimate position.
