Kentucky-born singer-songwriter Jackie DeShannon has reached the Top 10 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart twice in her career. The second of those Top 10 hits, and the biggest hit of DeShannon’s career, came in 1969, when “Put A Little Love In Your Heart” peaked at number 4. Four years earlier — and exactly 50 years ago — DeShannon’s first Top 10 hit, “What The World Needs Now Is Love,” rose to a peak position of number 7, where it would spend two weeks.
