It Happened 50 Years Ago: Mason Williams “Classical Gas”
Abilene, Texas-born musician Mason Williams made four appearances on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, all between 1968 and 1969. His first single to appear on the chart, “Classical Gas,” became his only Top 40 hit. Exactly 50 years ago, “Classical Gas” was in its second week of a two-week run at as peak position of number 2.
