It Happened 50 Years Ago: Patty Duke “Don’t Just Stand There”
By the mid-1960s, New York-born performer Patty Duke had become famous for her acting, particularly her Oscar-winning supporting performance in the film The Miracle Worker and her starring roles as both main characters in the television program The Patty Duke Show. During the show’s run, Duke also landed four singles on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, the first two of which reached the Top 40. Duke’s first charting single, “Don’t Just Stand There,” was her biggest hit, spending two weeks at number 8 in August 1965. Exactly 50 years ago, “Don’t Just Stand There” was in its second week at number 8.
