It Happened 50 Years Ago: Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs “Wooly Bully”
Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs reached the Top 40 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart six times, most successfully with two singles that reached number 2. In 1966, their single “Lil’ Red Riding Hood” spent two weeks at number two. A little more than a year earlier — and exactly 50 years ago – their most famous single, “Wooly Bully,” achieved the same feat, reaching number 2 for its two week run.
