As a duo, Simon & Garfunkel hit number one on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart three times. Exactly 50 years ago, their first Top 40 hit turned into their first of those three number one singles, as “The Sound Of Silence” ascended to the top of the chart. After one week at the top, “The Sound of Silence” fell from the number one slot, but it returned a couple weeks later to add a second week to its run.
