Before Smokey Robinson embarked on his solo career, he and The Miracles hit the Top 10 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart six times. Their biggest hit was the last of those six hits, “The Tears of a Clown,” which exactly 50 years ago climbed to the top of the chart to begin a two-week run at number one.
