Los Angeles-based band Steppenwolf‘s two Top 5 hits on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart came with their first two songs to appear on the chart. Exactly 50 years ago, the second of that pair of hits, “Magic Carpet Ride,” climbed into the Top 5 on its way to a peak position of number 3 a couple weeks later.
