It Happened 50 Years Ago: The Beatles “We Can Work It Out”

After dominating U.S. popular music in 1964 and 1965, the Beatles kept their run going as the year turned 1966. Exactly 50 years ago, in the second week of 1966, the Beatles rose to number one on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart for the eleventh time in their career — and the eleventh time in less than two years — as “We Can Work It Out” climbed to the top for the first of three weeks.
