It Happened 50 Years Ago: The Box Tops “The Letter”
Memphis-based band The Box Tops made ten appearances on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, with seven of those songs reaching the Top 40 and two hitting the Top 10. Their biggest hit was their first song to appear on the chart, “The Letter,” which exactly 50 years ago climbed to number one for a four-week reign.
