It Happened 50 Years Ago: The Lovin’ Spoonful “Summer in the City”
New York based band The Lovin’ Spoonful appeared on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart fourteen times, with ten of those songs reaching the Top 40 and eight — their first eight charting singles, in fact — hitting the Top 10. Amid all of that success, the band’s biggest hit was their lone number one hit, “Summer in the City,” which exactly 50 years ago rose to number one for a three-week reign.
