New York City-based vocal group The Mamas & The Papas appeared on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart fifteen times, with nine of those songs reaching the Top 40 and six hitting the Top 10. It all began in 1966, with the quartet’s first charting single, “California Dreamin’,” which exactly 50 years ago climbed to a peak position of number 4, where it would spend one week.
