It Happened 50 Years Ago: The Sweet Inspirations “Sweet Inspiration”
Founded by Whitney Houston’s mother, Cissy Houston, R&B vocal group The Sweet Inspirations performed backup work for numerous performers in the 1960s and 1970s. During that time, between 1967 and 1968, the group also hit Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart five times in their own right. Just one of those five songs reached the Top 40, and exactly 50 years ago, that song — “Sweet Inspiration” — climbed to a peak position of number 18.
