Matthew Wilder
Exactly 30 years ago, Manhattan-born musician Matthew Wilder was in the middle of his second week of a three-week run at number 5 with “Break My Stride.” While it wasn’t his only Top 40 hit — the follow-up single, “The Kid’s American,” went to number 33 — “Break My Stride” is without a doubt the song for which Wilder is remembered. While those two songs account for all of Wilder’s Top 40 success as a recording artist, he has in the three decades since then written and produced work by Christina Aguilera, Puff Daddy, Kelly Clarkson, and may other artists.
