Monthly Mixtape: November
Happy Birthday, Jose.
November is my birth month, but it is perhaps my least favorite month of the year. Working in retail for a decade will sow resentment in your heart. Having to serve those privileged enough to enjoy time off with their families, shopping for needless consumer goods, and not worrying about if their car will start in the cold – will make one dislike a time of the year.
The j-card featuring the fever that got me to call the doctor.
But I want to focus on something else besides bitter feelings toward income inequality and hollow capitalistic pseudo-events. I am no longer that 20-year-old kid working retail. I am turning thirty in a few weeks, and I want to focus on being grateful. I am recovering from a nasty case of COVID-19 and just worked hundreds of hours of unpaid overtime (hence the monthlong hiatus), and I have a lot of time to reflect and thing about what makes life worth living. This month’s mixtape is about what I am grateful for, and just for good measure, some of my favorite songs because I am just grateful to be alive.
