Remembering Phil Everly
Phil Everly, who was one half of The Everly Brothers, passed away yesterday at the age of 74.
The American duo experienced tremendous success over a five-year period from 1957 to 1962. During that span, they scored 15 top 10 hits, with four of them going to number 1: “Wake Up Little Susie,” “All I Have To Do Is Dream,” “Bird Dog,” and “Cathy’s Clown.” Those achievements led The Everly Brothers to become one of rock ‘n’ roll’s foundational acts, and they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986.
Their final Top 40 hit, “Bowling Green,” peaked at exactly number 40 in 1967, and is about the city in Kentucky that was near the town of Brownie, where Don Everly was born.
