Roy Kinnear

You very likely know actor Roy Kinnear from his role as Veruca Salt’s father in the 1971 film Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory. You may also, though, remember him from his appearance as the band’s manager in the videos for the Mike and the Mechanics songs “All I Need Is A Miracle” and “Taken In,” which both hit the Top 40 in 1986.

Kinnear died at the untimely age of 53 just a couple of years later, in September 1988, from complications following a fall from a horse during filming for The Return of the Musketeers.  Born in Wigan, Lancashire, England, in 1934, Roy Kinnear would have turned 80 today.
