Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue — May 2023

Many weddings follow a tradition in which the bride has something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue. Realizing that the same idea could apply to music, we’re introducing a new monthly feature around it. We’ll offer four songs that revolve around a theme. One will be an old song, one will be a new song, one will be a song that samples from another song (i.e., borrows something), and one will be a song in which the artist or title contains “blue.” It will be up to you to figure out the theme.

This month, we feature Frank Sinatra‘s “The Coffee Song” as something old; the Jonas Brothers‘ latest hit, “Waffle House,” as something new; A Tribe Called Quest‘s “Ham ‘N’ Eggs,” which samples Funkadelic’s “Nappy Dugout,” as something borrowed; and Deep Blue Something’s “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” as something blue.
