The Deele
You likely know Babyface (a.k.a. Kenneth Edmonds) from his string of hits between 1989 and 2001 that included six Top 10 singles. You may also know Babyface for his work as a record producer for numerous artists, which is also the capacity in which you may recognize L.A. Reid.  The work of Reid and Babyface as producers included their joint project LaFace Records, which featured such acts as TLC, Toni Braxton, and Usher in the early to mid-1990s.
For all of that success, the first time that Babyface and Reid hit the Top 10 occurred exactly 25 years ago, as their band The Deele peaked for one week at number 10 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart with “Two Occasions.” Though they had hit the Hot 100 once before — peaking at number 77 in 1984 with “Body Talk” – “Two Occasions” would be The Deele’s only Top 40 hit.
Can you say John Garabedian’s Open House Party? Remember in the day when this tune used to close out the show? He’s still on the air – http://www.openhouseparty.com/
