The Musical Career of Leonard Nimoy
Leonard Nimoy, largely known to the world for his portrayal of Mr. Spock in Star Trek, passed away yesterday at the age of 83. While Nimoy is principally known for his acting career, between 1967 and 1970, building off his fame from Star Trek, he released five music albums. On the first two albums, Nimoy sang songs built out of his Spock persona. On later albums, he covered popular folk and rock songs, and he sang additional original songs that complemented the themes of those covered tunes. Perhaps one of Nimoy’s more memorable — or forgettable, depending on how you view it — songs was “The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins,” in which he sang about the hero of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit. The video for the song appears above.
