If you’ve seen the 2012 film Pitch Perfect, you know that the Ace of Base song “The Sign” plays a prominent role in the film. Exactly 20 years ago, “The Sign” ascended to the top spot on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, where it would spend a total of 6 weeks. It was the second straight Top 5 hit for the Swedish group, following the number 2 success of their debut hit, “All That She Wants.”

Ace of Base would follow up “The Sign” with one more Top 5 hit, as “Don’t Turn Around” peaked at number 4 a few months later. Though they did not return to the Top 5 after that, Ace of Base did hit the Top 40 their next four Hot 100 singles over the following four and a half years before stalling out at number 76 with “Whenever You’re Near Me” in late 1998.
