Touch of Top 40

Given that their popularity has been based much more largely on album sales and concert performances than on hit singles, it’s not necessarily surprising that the Grateful Dead don’t have a long history of Top 40 singles success.  In fact, they only hit the Top 40 once. That song, though, rose all the way to the Top 10, and exactly 25 years ago today, “Touch of Grey” peaked at number 9 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart.

The Grateful Dead officially disbanded after frontman Jerry Garcia passed away in 1995, but they have been known to reunite for musical work and performances here and there since then, and you can read about the latest developments in the lives and careers of band members at the official Grateful Dead website.
