Vision of a Record-Breaking Career

When it comes to going to number 1 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, Mariah Carey has broken a number of records in her career.  She became the first artist to hit number 1 with her first five singles.  In 2008, when “Touch My Body” ascended to the top of the charts, it marked her 18th number 1 hit, which set a record for solo artists.  With three, she has had more singles debut at number 1 than anyone else.  And, her collaboration with Boyz II Men for “One Sweet Day” hold the record for most weeks at number 1, with 16.

All of this started exactly 20 years today, when Mariah’s first hit, “Vision of Love,” hit the top of the Hot 100 for a four-week stay.
